Magical Girl Exchange is a community for the exchange of fic and art devoted to the magical girl genre.
What are the requirements for fic and art?
Fic must be at least one thousand words in a fandom requested by the recipient and featuring at least one requested character. Art must be a complete, original piece of art featuring at least one requested character in a requested fandom.
What are the required minimums /maximums for offering/asking?
Minimum Asking: Two fandoms, one character each
Maximum Asking: Six fandoms, four characters each
Minimum Offering: Two fandoms, two characters each
Maximum Offering: Ten fandoms, ten characters each
Are only magical girls eligible?
Any character from a magical girl work is eligible.
What about magical girls from non-magical girl works?
You may nominate magical girls from works that are themselves not of the magical girl genre. However, in this case only the magical girls themselves are eligible.
What about multiple versions of the same canon?
Yes, you can nominate multiple versions of the same canon. So you could nominate say the Sailor Moon manga, Sailor Moon anime and even the Sailor Moon English dub. Each would be considered a separate canon for this exchange. If you are nominating a dub then please use the name for the characters in the dubs.
What about canon magical girl AUs?
Canon magical girl AUs are eligible, but the original is not. So you can ask for Nurse Witch Komugi or Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya but not Soul Taker or Fate/stay night.
Can I request a crossover?
Yes, you can request crossovers, but you will not be matched based on those. Those would be an optional detail you can ask for.
Can I request an AU where a non-magical girl series is a magical girl series?
Only in your optional details and in addition to your minimum of asking for two magical girl fandoms with at least one character each. If you then want to add in your letter or optional details where you would love a Supernatural AU were Sam and Dean came from a family of magical girls and traveled around the country side doing magical girl stuff, then go for it. Just remember the giver might not know those fandoms.
What are treats and are they allowed?
Treats are extra gifts that are made just because you want to. They can be for your recipient, they can be for someone else, etc. You do not even need to be participating in the exchange if you want to treat someone.
What are letters and optional details?
Optional details are details you put in your sign up to help the person assigned to you make a better gift for you. They are optional and using those details are optional. Most however will try to at least honor things like do not wants, squicks, triggers and general dislikes.
Letters are like a longer, more detailed version of your sign up. You can include things like resources, crossover prompts, requests for non-magical girl series as a magical girl AU, more detailed prompts, etc. Most post links to their letters publically on a post dedicated to them. Many use letters to write treats from, find new canons to check out, etc.
